The Center for American Studies invites you on Monday, May 8th, at 12pm, to a roundtable on The Importance of Literature and of an Education in Humanities for Nowadays Students. Guest speaker: Thomas Cousineau, Professor of English at Washington College and a specialist in the field of international modernist writing. He has written four books, including two on Samuel Beckett, one on modernist fiction, and one on the novels of the Austrian writer Thomas Bernhard. The discussion will focus on the role of humanities in general and of literature in particular for the education of students with a background in economics. We will try to answer questions such as: What do we read? Why do / don t we read? What education does fiction offer one?

On April 26 th, Prof. Nicolae Istudor, PhD, Rector, of the Bucharest University of Economic Studies and Prof. Ahmed Deya Khamis,PhD,President of the Egyptian Academy for Computers, Information and Management Technology in Tanta, signed the Partnership Agreement between the two academic institutions. The partnership aims to enhance the institutional cooperation and to develop academic and cultural exchanges in the areas of education and research.

The Center for American Studies organizes on Wednesday, April 26th, at 13:30, room 1604, the workshop on the Romani and the Holocaust in Romania. Professor Michelle Kelso from George Washington University is going to present the documentary film entitled: “Hidden Sorrows: The Persecution of Romanian Gypsies during WWII”. The film based on her research on the history of the Romanian Roma deported in the Transnistria camps.

In 18 and 19 of March ASE participated at the International University Fair - RIUF (Romanian International University Fair), along with over 110 other universities from Romania and internationally. During the educational fair, we had over 500 meetings with students / potential students to whom we presented the educational offer for undergraduate, master and doctoral studies and the opportunities for professional development within our university.

During the visit in France, the delegation of the Bucharest University of Economic Studies comprised of Prof. Nicolae Istudor,PhD, Rector, and Prof. Marius Profiroiu, PhD, Vice Rector for International Relations, have held meetings with Prof. Pasquale Mammone,PhD, the President of the University of Artois (Arras) and Prof. Philippe Duez, PhD, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Management and Social Sciences. The discussions focused on the state of implementation of the partnership agreement between our institutions and explored possibilities of developing joint doctoral programmes, double degree master programmes, training programmes and the continuation of the academic exchange of students and professors.

Simina Costea, student at the Faculty of Administration and Public Management, part of the semifinalist team at the Simulation Contest for students, organized by the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration (NASPAA), qualified for the next stage of the competition, together with the teammates after having won the regional stage of the competition held at United Nations University of Maastricht in the Netherlands. NASPAA organized this year\'s competition on 25 February, in eight centers, located on four continents: Europe, Asia, South America and North America. Nearly 400 students, graduates of administrative sciences, political science and public management from all around the world traveled to the eight locations (Maastricht, New York, Washington DC, Indianapolis, Bogota, Tempe, Seattle and Beijing) to compete with the objective to promote food security worldwide. Within the competition, the students accessed a captivating computer simulation developed specifically for this event by the University of Virginia. The students had been divided into mixed teams of 16 to 20 competitors and pledged to outline a strategy for reducing global hunger in five regions of the world. They analyzed data, made policy proposals, modeled simulator results and developed recommendations for the jury of the competition. The jury emphasized the evolution of the winning team from the competition center of Maastricht, where our student, Simina Costea, made an important contribution, appreciating the thoughtfulness of the developed strategy.
