Times Higher Education
For the fourth year in a row, our University ranks the first position in Romania in Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2023, which has just been published!
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2023 include 1,799 universities across 104 countries and regions, making them the largest and most diverse university rankings to date. The table is based on 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators that measure an institution’s performance across four areas: teaching, research, knowledge transfers and international outlook. This year’s ranking analysed over 121 million citations across more than 15.5 million research publications and included survey responses from 40,000 scholars globally. Overall, it collected over 680,000 data points from more than 2,500 institutions that submitted data. Times Higher Education is one of the most prestigious international rankings, alongside the Shanghai and QS rankings.
Our University is ranked 1st in Romania, among the 20 universities evaluated, and for the second time in a row, it is ranked 501-600 worldwide, being the only Romanian university ranked in the top 600 in the world. Bucharest University of Economic Studies is also ranked 48th worldwide in citations.
This edition of the ranking was launched in New York on 12 October this year, during the Times Higher Education World University Rankings Summit, held in partnership with New York University. Our University is represented at this high-level Summit by Professor Constantin Marius Profiroiu, Vice-Rector for International Relations.

The Bucharest University of Economic Studies (BUES) was included, for the 4th consecutive year, in the prestigious Times Higher Education Impact Ranking, being ranked 301-400 out of 1406 universities. BUES has recorded the highest score so far, obtaining 76,3 points out of 100.

Bucharest University of Economic Studies is ranked in the 2022 Times Higher Education World University Rankings by subject as follows:
Our University thus maintains its position in the two areas, similar to the results obtained in 2020 and 2019.
Times Higher Education Impact Ranking 2021 which assesses universities’ performance all over the world against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) ranked the Bucharest University of Economic Studies 401-600. ASE’s best scores were registered for SDG 5 – Gender equality (rank 101-200), and SDG 9 – Industry, innovation and infrastructure, SDG 1 – No poverty, SDG 8 – Decent work and economic growth (rank 201-300 for each of them). The results show that ASE is prone to have a strong involvement in society and make a solid change in what concerns sustainable development.
Our University ranked the first position in Romania and 201-250 worldwide in the Times Higher Education Ranking – the Emerging Economies University Rankings 2021. The ranking takes into account, for the evaluation of universities, aspects such as the quality of teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international perspectives.
According to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject 2021, our University is present for the third consecutive year on notable positions in this ranking. Bucharest University of Economic Studies ranks 601+ in Business & Economics and 401-500 in Social Science. THE Rankings by Subject 2021 ranks over 1500 universities in 93 states, based on a set of 13 indicators, grouped on 5 criteria: teaching, research, citations, internationalization, innovation.
Our university is present again in the prestigious THE World University Rankings 2021 with an improved position as compared to the last year. ASE is ranked 601-800 worldwide and, for the second year, it maintains the first position among the universities in Romania, the best performance recorded so far.
ASE is ranked 801-1000 in Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2020, having a strong increase in its performance as compared to the last year, and is the first university in Romania according to this ranking.
Times Higher Education Impact Ranking 2020, which measures the contribution of universities to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, placed our university on the following places:
- 201-300 in the overall ranking, out of 766 world universities,
- 63rd for SDG 1 – No Poverty
- 401-600 for SDG 4 – Quality Education
- 52nd for SDG 5 – Gender Equality
- 32nd for SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Development
- 101-200 for SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
- 201-300 for SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities
- 201-300 for SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
- 301-400 for SDG 17 – Partnership for the Goals
Our university ranked 251-300 in the Times Higher University Emerging Economies University Ranking 2020.
According to the 2020 Times Higher Education World University Rankings by subject published on November 6th, our university is ranked:
